Alajuela: Before flying home…. last day and some final notes

Female Red-eyed Tree Frog sleeping

Wednesday February 15, 2012

Today we took it real easy, for the last time we had the typical costa rican breakfast in the soda opposite of our hostel. Afterwards we had to find a place where to print our boarding cards for tomorrow, because we had done the check in online already. Everything without any problems.

Alajuela: Before flying home…. day 4 Volcan Poas & Doka Coffee Tour

Volcan Poas

Tuesday February 14, 2012

Visiting the volcan Poas which is close to Alajuela (39 kms) you`ve got to start early, because later during the day usually clouds cover the crater so you won`t see very much. We started at 7 o`clock in the morning (the owner of our hostel „Mango Verde“ took us with his car for the usual taxi price) and we had incredible views of the crater without many people.

Alajuela: Before flying home…. day 3 Visiting the „Ave Zoo“

Parrot

Monday February 13, 2012

The day began more quiet than the night was, because we felt the earth moving tonight! There was a quite strong earth tremor,(6 at the official scale), 200kms away from Alajuela. It makes you really feel kind of small when you feel the earth beneath your feet is shaking. What a power has nature !!

Alajuela: Before flying home…. day 2: Visiting the capital „San Jose“

Street art in San Jose pedestrian area

Sunday February 12, 2012
We slept long and then first visited the bike shop „Ciclo Deportes“ to show the bikes to the owner Marco. He especially was excited about the Rohloff gears and very interested in our saddles „Sella anatomica“ which he classified as „very intelligent“ but added a little bit resigned that „all things are invented already“. I offered him to take a ride around the block with my bike to see how the Rohloff gears work and everything. „Cool bike“ he said coming back.

Tarcoles-Orotina

Leaving the Carara Hotel in Tarcoles

Thursday February 9, 2012, 30 km (19 miles) – Total so far: 1,463 km (909 miles)

Today it was only a short stretch towards our final destination „Alajuela“ from where we fly home at last. We first wanted to do the way from Taracoles to Alajuela in just one day, but as the hostel in Alajuela only has a room for us from friday on, we decided instead of staying one day more in Taracoles to add a stop in the town of Orotina, which lies on the way. Orotina is known as the fruit and vegetable town of Costa Rica.

Manuel Antonio-Tarcoles

African palm fruit

Monday February 6, 2012, 100 km (62 miles) – Total so far: 1,418 km (881 miles)

The owner of „Casa buena vista“ Anita, stood up earlier for us, so that we didn`t have to leave without having breakfast. She`s a real nice person. First we had to climb about 800m from the house up to the main road, what was hard especially for my wife, because she`s not exactly the early morning type… And the climbs were steep, 17% on many stretches of this short passage.
