Today we took a day off. Off of everything-we just didn´t do anything. Relaxing on our terrace, I took some cricket lessons with the son of the guesthouse, nothing more. Nice day.

To get out of Kandy took us almost one hour. The traffic here is crazy, crazy, crazy. And everyone drives like crazy, crazy, crazy. And the noise, the steadily blowing horns, the sickening smell of the exhaust emissions drive you even more crazy, crazy, crazy.

The most sacred relic in all Sri Lanka is a tooth of Buddha himself. When his body was burned in south India, like it is common after dead, some of his mortal remains were rescued from the ashes, like this tooth. At least that´s what the legend says….Pilgrims from whole Sri Lanka come here to worship this relic in daily ceremonies.

The botanic garden lies 7km from the town center, and we took a tuk-tuk to get there. It´s an adventure itself to have such a ride through the heavy traffic. If you are used to a careful style of driving, maybe better close your eyes. It´s got nothing to do with european driving here, another world.

What goes up, must come down-we expected to roll down the way to Kandy when we got on our bikes in the morning. The weather was cloudy, looked like raining even, and it was cold. Or let´s say it felt real cold, although the temperature was about 14°C.

Today I need to care for my wife. She got fever and a bad cold. Yesterday we already stopped at a small pharmacy on the way up, and she got a lot of medicine from the druggist. Unfortunately you can´t look up what you are taking there in the internet, because you get the capsules open, without package.

Today we are setting off for the highest town in Sri Lanka: 1880m above sea level. It was a cold morning in Haputale. Cold winds that swept the mist of the mountains over the small road we took. It seemed to be like an unreal scene of a film, a very special mood,a very rough beauty.

Today we did a little trip up to Lipton´s seat, the favorite place of Sir Walter Lipton. He was the founder of the „Lipton Tea Company“ in the 19th century. This place he visited whenever he needed inspiration and they say here he offered his tea to the royals at that time. The place is almost 2000m high and you can have a beautiful 360°view of the mountains and valleys around, all covered with tea plantations.

We tried to sleep long, but we were awake at only 7 o´clock in the morning. After breakfast we went to the town center to find a bike shop. There is a small one and the guy tried his best, but I wanted to adjust the
Threaded Headset, and at last he didn´t have the necessary tool.

We started at half past seven at our very private hostel. The family was quite sad, that we were leaving already. For us it was one more time an astonishing experience how friendly and warm people are here.
