We took the decision to cycle this little loop in Uruguay because it matched perfectly with my family affaires for which I came here first of all.

We said good-bye to Montevideo and headed for the port where the ferries leave for Buenos Aires, Argentina. For the last time we cycled along the Ramblas and the port was easy to find.

We started the day very relaxed. After sleeping long and having breakfast, we went to visit what is called „the old city“ of Montevideo.

When the alarm rang at 6 o´clock early in the morning we began to pack things still feeling tired.

Wow, we almost were kind of excited when we left the campground at 7.30 am because soon-in about 10kms- we would pass through the city of „Punta del Este“, the one and only famous coastal resort of Uruguay!!

La Barra: Power chilling
A day off and we really didn´t do anything. We were sleeping long, had a relaxed breakfast to lay down on our sleeping mats outside the tent.
Rocha-La Barra: Bike Friday´s Dakar along the ocean

We took it easy today and had a nice breakfast in our hostal before leaving. At 9.30 o´clock we finally started. The first stretch were about 20km on the toll road no. 9 that we cycled yesterday.

Wow, what a highway today-but we chose the shortest way to Rocha, to get to the coast quickly. Well, so let´s do this!!
Minas-San Carlos: Panoramic road
66 km (41 miles) – Total so far: 679 km (422 miles)
Today we had breakfast in our hostel before leaving, which is pretty unusual for us, because we aren´t really enthusiastic about the typical uruguayan breakfast….It turned out to be a good idea for the stretch to San Carlos leads right through the uruguayan mountains.
