87 km (54 miles) – Total so far: 840 km (522 miles)
We took it easy today and had a nice breakfast in our hostal before leaving. At 9.30 o´clock we finally started. The first stretch were about 20km on the toll road no. 9 that we cycled yesterday.
Then we turned to the left where a small sandy road was leading to the oceanside.
It was hard to cycle here as the road was not only sandy but had a lot of washboard marks from former traffic. We only could go very slowly and needed a lot of strength for pedaling.
Our hope, that the road would get better as soon as we reached the seaside (road no. 10) did not figure out this time – it kept on going like this. The sea wind was blowing and there were lots of kite-surfers. We reached a bridge over the little lagoon of “Garzon” and suddenly there was pavement again, heavenly cycling, felt like flying almost, so easy.
We got closer to this famous sophisticated coastal area, where the rich, the beauty and the important one´s (at least that´s what they think) come to spend their summer holidays.
On the left side the sea and the beaches, on the right side all the luxury houses and big fat expensive cars on the road.
We passed through all the spots on the way to the highlight “Punta del Este” which is like “Nizza” or “Cannes” on the Cote d` azure in France.
About 10kms before at “La Barra” we first bought some food in the supermarket (it`s like everybody told us before: here everything is very expensive, all things cost about 20% more than usual-wow!) stopped at the Camping and put the tent. The camp ground here is very nice and comfortable. And of course very expensive. 22 USD per night, and we don´t even have a vehicle.
Anyway we liked it here, so we decided to stay another day to relax. In the evening we cooked some pasta with olives, tomato and tuna. Tasted great!!!
