Manuel Antonio-Tarcoles

Monday February 6, 2012, 100 km (62 miles) – Total so far: 1,418 km (881 miles)

The owner of „Casa buena vista“ Anita, stood up earlier for us, so that we didn`t have to leave without having breakfast. She`s a real nice person. First we had to climb about 800m from the house up to the main road, what was hard especially for my wife, because she`s not exactly the early morning type… And the climbs were steep, 17% on many stretches of this short passage.

Well on the main road we got our reward, because we could go down all the 5kms that we had to climb so hard at our arrival. I went at 65 km/h. The road was easy and so we were going quite fast until we had a little coconut-break. A real cool coconut milk is one of the best things to take away your thurst, and it`s so refreshing and gives you new energy.

We both love it! A guy with a pick up stopped and began to talk to us, he was living for some years in the USA, first illegal, later legaly with a green card. He told us his experiences in the States and we really had to laugh about his stories. In his opinion, the USA was a racist country, but even worse was Costa Rica he said.

Here they don`t like Nicargua people, nor blacks he said, but with Europeans everything was o.k. he told us. O.K., this time we came from the right continent….
We passed „Playa Hermosa“, „Jaco“ and „Playa Herradura“, all spots where surfing is the main theme. I didn`t like these huge buildings right on the beach, and even the beaches itself may be good for surfing but surely not for swimming. And Party people all around. If you want nightlife these spots surely are the right thing for you, but if you want tranquility you should go elsewhere.

We decided to go to“Tarcola“, a village, famous for its river full of crocodiles and close to the National Park „Caraca“. Again some mountains to climb before we could arrive here, but I was surprised what a nice hotel („La Carara“) we could find here. Just right on the beach, with pool, with TV, with Wifi, with restaurant- amazing, for the village is very smaaaallllll !!!
