We decided to explore Alajuela a little bit today. First we had a nice breakfast at the Soda „El puntal“ just opposite of our hostel. We had a lot of fun with the three ladies who run the buisness, nice place.

Friday February 10, 2012, 46 km (29 miles) – Total so far: 1,509 km (938 miles)
The last stretch biking. Our tour will end today in Alajuela, where we`re going to stay 5 more days, but won`t do any biking no more. As Alajuela lies 950m high and in Orotina we had just arrived at 250m altitude it was quite clear, that the road was going up.
Thursday February 9, 2012, 30 km (19 miles) – Total so far: 1,463 km (909 miles)
Today it was only a short stretch towards our final destination „Alajuela“ from where we fly home at last. We first wanted to do the way from Taracoles to Alajuela in just one day, but as the hostel in Alajuela only has a room for us from friday on, we decided instead of staying one day more in Taracoles to add a stop in the town of Orotina, which lies on the way. Orotina is known as the fruit and vegetable town of Costa Rica.
Wednesday February 8, 2012, 15 km (9 miles) – Total so far: 1,433 km (890 miles)
After an early breakfast we went to the Tarcoles river. From the bridge above you can watch crcodiles taking their sunbath. (…and all outside the National Park). The rest of the day we kept on chilling by the pool.

We slept long and had a nice breakfast (like always: gallo pinto with scrambled eggs, bread and fresh fruit). Actually there`s nothing to do here than to visit the National Park „Carara“ and that`s not what we are planning to do.
Monday February 6, 2012, 100 km (62 miles) – Total so far: 1,418 km (881 miles)
The owner of „Casa buena vista“ Anita, stood up earlier for us, so that we didn`t have to leave without having breakfast. She`s a real nice person. First we had to climb about 800m from the house up to the main road, what was hard especially for my wife, because she`s not exactly the early morning type… And the climbs were steep, 17% on many stretches of this short passage.

Normally you shouldn`t go to visit a National Park on a sunday, because there are many people. Although we knew that, we went, because on mondays it`s closed and we didn’t want to stay until Tuesday just for the Park.

We had a very nice breakfast with fresh fruit, scrambeld eggs, toast, marmelade and some cake. Our stomachs were full to the brim and we did an „after-breakfast-siesta“, pura vida like they say here.
Friday February 3, 2012, 70 km (43 miles) – Total so far: 1,318 km (819 miles)
At 6am we were on our way to have some time riding without the hot sun. The road was nice, some stretches went right along the seaside and there was only little traffic. We had some impression of „Road wildlife“ in Costa Rica, that can be very tragic sometimes….

After a nice breakfast with „Gallo Pinto“ and some „Batidas“ we first took a little nap and then walked to the Uvita Cascade.
