145 km (90 miles) – Total so far: 2,187 km (1,359 miles)
The night was short. I couldn´t fall asleep until 11pm. Thoughts about how it would be to cycle into Mexico City kept me awake I think . So I got up early. At 5:45am I was already leaving Puebla.
The temperature was really cold 3C°, and I was wearing all clothes I was carrying with me.
As soon as I was cycling the road started to climb. In the beginning it went up slowly but after a while it got tough. The road climbed for about 70km until I reached the highest point at 3200m.
When the descend began it really felt like a reward. Awesome! Although I was going very fast I tried not to go more then 60km/h. At a height of 1000m suddenly there were a lot of parts of the road under construction and it got very dangerous to cycle on. There were no shoulders and a lot of traffic. The drivers didn´t show any respect and I needed a lot of concentration to be safe.
All along the way right and left beside the road there were a lot of shantytowns so I went as fast as I could. It was a little be scary to be honest…..
The closer I got to Mexico City the heavier got the traffic. It was really bad – a chaos, and it got worse and worse. I tried to find the way to my brother´s house, but it was so complicated that finally he came to pick me up.
Me and Bike Friday – we did it!!
