It was heavenly not to get up early. We had a relaxed breakfast in the yard of our guesthouse.
As we didn´t feel in the mood to explore the city, we did the every day affairs like washing the clothes and writing this journal.
In the afternoon we decided to visit the temple Nallur Kovil which they call “The temple of all temples” in the web. When we arrived, there was a sri lankan guy just at the door swell to enter the inner temple, who liked to talk to us and explained a little bit about the temple.
Men have to take out their shirts bevor entering as a matter of respect to Shiva, their highest god. Inside, we found it an “average temple sight”, nice, but nothing special at all. (My wife said, the most interesting thing was to look at all those naked bellies of the visitors, of which not every one was a notedly eye candy).
Just when we went out, the guy we had talked before stopped us. “Don´t go he said, in five minutes there will be a praying ceremony”. So we stayed and got some further information about the on going ceremony. Very nice. Afterwards we chatted a little bit with the guy and took the obligatory pictures.
When we walked back we decided to look for a beer, so we needed a liquid store. The measuring units of Sri Lanka must be special ones ,because everybody told us in 50m we will find one, but they forgot to add sri lankan meters. Finally we found one, but I guess we walked about 3 kms…..
We took a tuk-tuk to go home and got us some food (take away kottu rotti).
The evening we enjoyed sitting in the guesthouse yard, having the kottu rotti for dinner with some cold beers. Awesome.
