Jaffna: The Dutch Fort & Indian dinner

Monday 29, January 2018

We took it easy today, slept long and had breakfast quite late.
Another guy was sitting with us in the guesthouse yard, and as soon as he started to talk you could say this one´s from Germany!

He actually arrived this morning after a nightmare flight with Kathar airlines – a lot of delays with loss of the connection flight and luggage….We talked for an hour or two and he asked us, if we already had tried out this “famous” indian restaurant here in Jaffna. “No, we did not, nor did we one that there is one”. So we decided to go there at night.
Meanwhile we went to see the dutch Fort from the 17th century. It was built by the Portuguesesin 1625 but captured by the Dutch in 1658. A lot of miracles are said to have happened there bcause of the Virgin Mary who´s statue was inside the former dutch church – today only ruins.

In fact it´s not a very special sight. You can walk around, watch the old walls and you have a nice view of the sea. But as there are no signs that could explain something you just walk around not getting any relation to these old, old walls.
When we came back to the guesthouse some other folks had gathered in the yard from Switzerland and Canada and they joined us as we went for dinner. The food was really good at the indian restaurant and we had nice relaxed evening. Tomorrow we will start our way back to Sigiriya.
