The day started with a relaxed breakfast on the terasse of our bungalow. We had nice visit from 2-year old Cathy, who fell in love with Gerardo or let`s say with the cat „Tom“ from his mobile.
Moin-Puerto Viejo: Caribean feelings
Sunday January 15, 2012, 70 km (43 miles) – Total so far: 352 km (219 miles)
A nice trip, always along the coast with the sea nearby. We could see and hear the big waves rolling against the shore. The weather was not quite good, infact, we started in the poaring rain. The only good thing about it here is the temperature- it’s still so warm, that even if you get wet, you won’t get a cold.
Moin: Small tour on the Tortuguera channels
Saturday January 14, 2012
Unfortunately the locals yesterday were right. Impossible to get a boat that goes to Tortuguera and returns the same day.You are obligated to stay at least one night there. As we want to leave tomorrow for Puerto Viejo, near the frontier to Panama, we’re not going to make that tour as we planed it.
Turrialba-Moin: Up and down and a highway to hell
Friday January 13, 2012, 105 km (65 miles) – Total so far: 282 km (175 miles)
It began all so nice: Leaving Turrialba early in the morning the road was going down for at least 5 km we hardly had to pedal at all! But the end of the downhill turned out to be a tough climb of almost 50km until the junction of the main road leading to Puerto Limon. Again altogether 1000m upwards in the end.

Climbing Volcan Irazu 3450m: Up up to the sky
Wednesday January 11, 2012, 60 km (37 miles) – Total so far: 104 km (65 miles)
If you know you got pedal 32km always going up, you think you are mentally prepared, but still reality can be hard. We started at 6.30 pm and from stepping out the front door of our hostel, the road was going up. To the top of Irazu you got to pass over 2000m of altitude, so the climbs are quite steep all the time, up to 17%.
Rest day in Cartago: Not much to do
Tuesday January 10, 2012
There’s not anything to do in the city of Cartago, so we were just taking a walk around, visiting the two sights that the town has to offer: The ruins of the old church and the Basilica.

At 6 o’clock we finally arrived at the airport in Alajuela, Costa Rica.It turned out to be such a long flight.Although we knew it would take us ca. 15 hours to get here it seemed endless. We had to get out of the plane in Santo Domigo, where we had a small stop and that took us also 1,5 hours.
