My very first idea this time was going to Asia to escape the winter here in Germany. What in the end made me prefer Mexico was the fact, that I finally decided connect the trip with a „family visit“.
Final thoughts
Monday February 10, 2014
We really loved cycling Sri Lanka. The island has to offer a lot of nature, we saw a lot of animals and we met wonderful people. It´s easy to find a stay for the night, there are plenty of guesthouses, most of the roads are in very good condition and not to forget the food is always fresh and tastes delicious.
If you should need any help, there´s always someone kind and polite who will lend you a helping hand and help you out. People are relaxed and with there friendly smiles create a peaceful atmosphere all over the country.
Maybe as a cyclist, you should avoid the big main roads, as there´s a lot of traffic, and the permanent blowing of the horns can get bothering.
It´s good to know the rainy seasons for the regions you want to cycle as they differ from coast to coast. So make sure you will have nice and sunny weather. If you go to the mountains, don´t forget to take a warm jacket with you, for the evenings and nights can be quite cold.
Anyway: Touring Sri Lanka is highly recommended!!!!
Negombo: Packing the bikes and relaxing at the pool
Sunday February 9, 2014
Unfortunately our last day in Sri Lanka, slowly we are preparing to go home. We packed the bikes and then relaxed a last time at the pool. Incredible that we are back in the cold in about 24 hours while you try to avoid sunburn here.
One last rice and curry dinner today and at 1 o´clock in the night we´ll take off for good old Germany!!

Negombo: Small shopping
Saturday February 8, 2014
After enjoying the sun and the pool we took a tuk tuk because I wanted to get another saron and the typical machete from here they cut the coconuts with.
The two shops weren´t far to go and our tuk tuk driver was very helpful with the negotiations we had to lead about the prices. It was fun.
Negombo: Short city tour
Friday February 7, 2014
There is not really a reason to visit Negombo. Like all the other sri lankan towns Negombo is not more than a choked main street, full of tuk tuks, trucks, buses and small motorbikes, all blowing their horns more or less at the same time.
Negombo: Enjoying our lovely beautyful villa
Thursday February 6, 2014
We entered another level along the holiday steps it seems to us: our guesthouse „The villa green Inn“ to us is like extraterrestrial! An amazing House, a beautiful room, a lovely garden, super friendly staff and a big swimming pool-you can´t ask for anything better.
Kurunegala-Negombo: Our last day cycling
Wednesday February 5, 2014, 78 km (48 miles) – Total so far: 1,758 km (1,092 miles)
Our last day of cycling began at 7 o´clock in the morning. First we had to make back the kms from our guest house to the city of Kurunegala. The usual traffic of school transport, but not too bad. At the junction to Negombo road we did a small breakfast break with some vegetable egg/chili-paste pastries.
Sigiriya-Kurunegala: The most bothering ride of our tour-the A6
Tuesday February 4, 2014, 84 km (52 miles) – Total so far: 1,680 km (1,044 miles)
The good-bye from the Paradise Inn guest house and the family of Milton (the owner) was so sad. Everybody was crying. We had such a good time together and so much fun. We really hope to see them again somehow.
