108 km (67 miles) – Total so far: 948 km (589 miles)
Wow, we almost were kind of excited when we left the campground at 7.30 am because soon-in about 10kms- we would pass through the city of „Punta del Este“, the one and only famous coastal resort of Uruguay!!
People always talk enthusiastic about it, and we supposed it would be an outstanding experience to see it…. Well, it was that kind of spot where everybody runs and you don´t have the slightest idea why. The main thing are huge hotels and the beach is average-nothing special at all.
The famous monument of the fingers on the beach is the only eye catcher here. So we marked off this and on we went along the coastal line.
First the character of the following little towns stayed the same, like they all tried to copy the big idol „Punta del Este“ but later on it got more idyllic and the spots were more picturesque like e.g. „Piriapolis“.
We first wanted to stay at „Cuchilla alta“ but there was no Camping and so we decided to cycle on to get closer to „Montevideo“, which marks the end of our Vuelta. The little town of „Atlantida“ is only some fifty kms away and has a campground. We stay here before we do the last stretch to „Montevideo“ tomorrow.
