Izamal: Exploring “Pueblo Magico”

I slept until 8 and went to have breakfast in a typical mexican restaurant. I had some “mexican eggs” ; eggs with a lot of habaneros beans and tortillas, delicious.

After I took a walk through the town. Looks really very nice, all the colonial buildings with the yellow painting. Right on the main square the Monastery is located. The only sad thing about it is that the spanish conquerers built it upon the former Maya temple that was situated there and which they were totally destroying.

They even used the stones of the Maya monument to build their new church. They felt so superior to the high culture of the Mayas and if you consider the fact, that europe was rather a very primitive, dark place then, it can really make you sick. Better not think about it and enjoy the beautiful sight.

Afterwards I climbed the Kinich Kak Mo pyramid where from the top you have a beautiful view all over the town.
The rest of the day I relaxed, tried to organize the next stretch tomorrow and just hung out.
