Wednesday January 22, 2014, 48 km (30 miles) – Total so far: 1,359 km (844 miles)
We started at half past seven at our very private hostel. The family was quite sad, that we were leaving already. For us it was one more time an astonishing experience how friendly and warm people are here.
This time the road was more or less the main track to Haputale, so it wasn´t that romantic as yesterday, but the pavement therefore perfect-you can´t have it all. The road was climbing up and down all the time which we found more exhausting than a constant climb, for you can´t find a good rhythm.
The scenery was beautiful, and the different greens of the huge tea plantations are just awesome. About 15 kms before reaching Haputale the climb began to get steep and stayed like this until Haputale. It took whole of our energy to go up. and in between my wife was pushing the bike for some meters, but found it even harder then to pedal.
When we reached the town there were immediately some tuk-tuk drivers asking if we were looking for a room. After checking two options we decided to stay at the „ABC“ guesthouse which has very friendly owners, free WIFI (if it works and if there is electricity-a problem in the whole mountain region) and an awesome kitchen. Everything freshly prepared and sri lankan style. In Haputale it seemed to us a good option for a reasonable price.
