Kandy-Sigiriya: Getting away from Kandy city jungle

Thursday January 30, 2014, 99 km (62 miles) – Total so far: 1,588 km (987 miles)

To get out of Kandy took us almost one hour. The traffic here is crazy, crazy, crazy. And everyone drives like crazy, crazy, crazy. And the noise, the steadily blowing horns, the sickening smell of the exhaust emissions drive you even more crazy, crazy, crazy.

We were so happy to leave this lunacy behind us.
Outside of Kandy we only had the usual traffic of
a main road, but not too bad.

The weather was good and we took it easy. Some breakfast and coconut breaks, relaxed cycling. After passing the temple in Dambulla we turned right to take a small road which turned out to be very nice. It went along a lakeside with almost no traffic. Unfortunately 10kms before Sigiriya it started to rain and the second time since we are here in Sri Lanka we arrived wet at our destination.

But our guesthouse „Paradise Inn“, where we had stayed already during our first Sigiriya stay provided us with everything you need in this case: A nice, clean and comfy room, a real hot shower, and a delicious homemade rice and curry! If you ever should go to Sigiriya it´s a must to stay here!!
