Trinidad-Durazno: Easy ride and camping for free

45 km (28 miles) – Total so far: 387 km (240 miles)

We didn´t start too early today as we knew it would be a short stretch only. Durazno, which means „Peach“ is only about 50kms away.

Cycling was nice and easy, little traffic and the weather was sweet. Not too hot, just perfect. We noticed that there are lots of offers to buy some fields, which is kind of sad, as the locals told us that the ground is so expensive that practically only foreigners can buy. Seems like a sellout of the country.

On the way a little shrine for „Gauchito Gil“, a religious figure that is honored in Argentina by many people for doing miracles of healing. But it´s more a legend than a historic thing.
When we arrived at the camping of Durazno, the woman who worked at the reception showed us where to put the tent and she felt so sorry for us when she realized, that we didn´t even have chairs with us, that she went to get some for us. She must have thought, hat we were very poor people – traveling by bike, no chairs – and when we asked for a supermarket to have something to eat, she was really worried.

You guys don´t have nothing to eat with you???? Too much for her good heart, she said: o.k. guys, stay here but please don´t pay anything. For you it´s free. That was so funny, because we actually didn´t say anything, but as we wanted to refuse her offer she wouldn´t let us. So o.k. here we go, camping for free! Maybe the welcoming sign for this little nice town of Durazno wasn´t exaggerated as it said „Welcome to Durazno, the town where god is alive“!
